So I recieved a call from a "Michael" representing Surfspeak. He started his pitch by telling me he could send thousands of visitors to my site monthly. I immediately tried to counter the questions with "Who are you, and exactly why should I listen?", but the fellow talked over me. He directed me to the company website, in his best boilerroom fast-talking manner, and put me through a demonstration of their service. Basically, they piggyback their advertisements on the backs of web searches. Not just a little text link, or a banner, but *half the freaking page* in a frame featuring the advertiser's site. This....was adware. Strike One. I asked them specifically if this qualifies as Adware. They went into a spiel about having a Windows Authenticode, and tried some fancy footwork to dodge, forcing me to ask again "Is this, or is this not adware?" Still, no answer. He then sent me to their alexa rankings, which I debunked as useless and easy to manipulate. He changed the subject, directing me to a client's website. Of course, an ActiveX warning appears. He tells me to run it. Let me restate that: He tells me to install their plugin. Their BHO Their Scumware. Strikes two, and three. I hung up on him. Has anyone else experienced this?
I hate telemarketers... I used to get those idiots calling me at my cellphone to offer me credit cards! Now they call my house on Sundays to offer me insurance. Stupid morons...
There are people doing similar things with some I-FRAME deal. Talking about how they are working on a deal with MicroSoft to buy out their plan. All high pressure hype and wanting like $1,495.00 per search phrase. Telemarketers ...... EEEEEYUUUUK Mike C.
Yeah, they tried telling me that Google and Yahoo wanted to buy out their voice-activated Internet Explorer and "DVD Quality Instant Messaging" software. Which is all, of course, bundled with their scumware. So look out for "SecureServicePack" and Surfspeak.
