I will. I've got a blog about search engines and search technologies, I would glady make a post about SURCH for your french audience. (Actually, I was already thinking doing so )
I really think you should wait before you do PR's and whatnot. Get the site up and running to it's full 101% before doing so. You only get one chance to make a first impression you know. Also, from what I have found, the first PR of a site is usually the strongest. I dunno, maybe just me. I never get the same kind of traffic the second and third times around for the same site. The mp3 search is a really cool idea but it seems to be a tad bit weak. It will find mp3's but not many of them. Some songs it only finds 1 or 2 mp3's. It would be really really nice if it could find atleast a page worth. And the people search, like I said before, it only shows the first two pages of results. =[
Not to say that he's not an expert, but Firefox search plug-ins are pretty trivial to make. 10 seconds, tops.
Well the MP3 search maynot find alot of results... how many sites do you find with alot of music you don't have to login to listen too. Anysite with music is problem little and has no links in to it! I would work on getting every page up and running before releasing a PR system. Dead links are not good at any time but then would be very bad...
I think you should release the PR system asap as a beta..so you can get feedback and then have more time to fix it
I like the design a lot. I made it my home page. Can;t tell yet though how good it is as a search engine but I will let you know once I use it more. ~John
Greetings all, As a newly registered, long time reader of the site - I though I would say hello. With regards to surch.com, I very much like the glossy graphic design and the sub categories displayed after you search. I think the site certainly has potential in the university sector (having just graduated), as, on my limited exploration, it seemed to offer better quality content sites than Google generally does. That's certainly credit to the sub category navigation tree. I look forward to seeing how it progresses!
Hi all ... very impressed great lay out this search engine will defi.NET.ly keep your visitors on there searched pages longer ... simply because there's more info right in your face .... excellent { you should stick a little google adsense into it LoL } ... instead of up~em a very happy Phillip Skinner
Nice site! Something odd about the 404s, though--at least with images. Example: I typed in 760li, which brought up a bunch of results. Some pictures would bring up a generic 404 page (I'd go with a custom one anyway), claiming a page couldn't be found, like this one: /cgi-bin/surch/http://www.marax.at/snapshot But if you copy & paste the URL into the address bar, without the /cgi-bin/surch/ part, the page comes up just fine. Maybe that could be solved by framing it like Google, with a thumbnail of the image up top, but still show the relevant page from the site below. That way, even if one image disappears, you still have access to the rest, which might be better than the one you were originally clicking on in the first place. And if there really is a 404, at least we'd see it as that site being the problem, rather than yours.
