Supplemental Results

    Morning,

I research my competitors, and see how they are doing in the search engines - this morning I have noticed that atleast four websites who are my competitors, are showing supplemental results for nearly all of their pages.

This has only happened within the last week. So I did a search for one of my domains (not the ones in my signature) and mine is the same - all pages showing supplemental results. Funny thing is when I do a search the pages appear and doesn't show as a supplemental page.

Has something changed that I have not picked up on, i.e. is site: bust again?

There are some threads about something called the August 17th disaster, I think this is what you are seeing.

Ahh okay, I will look at these! I've had a look at atleast 15 websites, all travel, and all have supplemental results, in site: command, but when you do a search these pages appear in the SERPs.

    Weird.

Edit: for those interested the thread discussing this issue is here

I've not noticed a hit on the traffic yet but I wouldn't worry about it because Google have the same problem (WTF is that crap they have indexed?!)

Darren, I think I know the site you are talking about and exactly the same has happened to mine.

I'm not reading anything into it as I have seen google flicking back and forth between supplementals and normal results with my site.

I am convinced its their problem not mine as the cached date on some pages is over 12 months ago and I know for a fact these pages have been cached since. This, plus the fact that I too have seen no drop in traffic from Google, and a non-site command produces non-supplemental results I am sure its their problem not ours!

If you do see any further significant developments, post them here and we can compare.

Will do tiptop! I've looked at all of our competitors and they are all in the same position - so your right it's a G problem not ours.

Google is all over the place IMO. My results have gone supplemental as well.

Just recenetly for over 5 days googlebase was broken -- allowing no bulk uploads. This they admitted.

I would hope to think that google is aware of the problem-- that many legitimate sites are unrightfully in the supplemental index-- but just dont want to publicly awknowledge it-- as it could cause a backlash for their stock and company in general.

I hope they get their act together.

Once in supplemental, do you think it is hard to get it out? I am trying to get some results of another website's pages out from the supplemental index.
