I see a lot of directory owners are suffering with the google supplemental pages i recently re-aquired www.1stchoicesearch.com and have done a lot of work with unique content to get out of the supps as over 4000 pages where in it Now out of 5600 indexed pages only 3 are in supplemental results How many pages does your directory have in supp and what are you doing to get out of it
try clicking on that last line of text that says: 'repeat the search with the omitted results included.' (5,240 not 3) Just thought you should know
What im currently doing, since about 2 days ago is beginning to write unique Meta Descriptions and Keywords for each category, correct me if im wrong but im believing that its one of the things that can help a bit. Plus i will do what i can to fill empty categories.
intersting! just boolmarked this thread, will see this site in a week, when i launched my site, a few pages were in supps,.... now it seems ..... more pages in supps still looking for ideas to get them out, i'm thinking getting rid of all news to test things out! Regards M.
he's got the same descriiption on all pages!!! (all that i saw!) and a single keyword on meta! plus a trailing path in title,.... i put $path infront of my titles on category pages and still out of supps! amazing!
It's usually due to the duplicated meta tags, especially title and description. Supplemental pages themselves don't affect negatively in your position in G SERP, but the more pages are indexed, the better your site to be recognized.
I want to know what is G doing for the supplemental pages that google.com has? Check this http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:www.google.com+****+-asdf --- As for directories, if you are trusting this command site:www.dmoz.org **** -asdf Check these http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:www.dmoz.org+****+-asdf http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:www.business.com+****+-asdf http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:www.alivedirectory.com+****+-asdf http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:www.avivadirectory.com+****+-asdf
Thats because the command site:www.yourwebsite.com **** -asdf is no longer functional and it shows almost all our pages in the supplemental index. Check out this article: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/google-p...emental-results-query-its-incredibly-valuable
coolsitez thanks, its going to take me some time to sort the meta tags but il tackle a bit each day i think. I wonder how many people do this or are already doing it, i would bet that many put it off.
I noticed the supplemental search not working a couple of days ago. I wonder if they disabled it because of all the webmasters obsessing over this issue? What I have done is mod_rewrite all my urls so they are now search-engine friendly. I also merged a few categories and added more listings, so that duplicate content on pages with little text is less of an issue. So now I know what isn't causing my pages to go supplemental.
on my detail page I changed the order so now it shows submitted sites name then my name on my one directory so I will see what happens with that if it works then I will do it on all my directories
I had a great discussion with someone here a few days back, and we agreed that before comparing the number of pages for a directory, it's good to understand Supplemental results first. It's not uncommon for (PHPLD) directories to have an inflated suplemental results count, sometimes exceeding the actual number of pages on your server.
