I changed the business model on a site, and ended up deleting a blog that had produced about 4000 pages – much of it random crap. I installed the directory script on the site, and....waited....linked, waited. Now I have 4000 supplemental pages and 2 indexed pages. Neat The directory script redirects 404s back to the main page, so I am guessing that google thinks I am a big fat spammer. Here is what I am thinking of doing. 1.changing the script for 404s via .htaccess – what would be the best directive for this? Or is this a good idea at all? 2.The 4000 supplemental pages fall into about 8 /directories. I am thinking of using a robots.txt disallow for these directories (even though they are no longer on the server.) Thoughts? It seems like I need to get this resolved to have the site move forward. Any successful strategy stories out there? The url is youcandoitpublishing.com - this last update took it from a PR4 to a PR0 - also neat. Now some of the interior pages have PR - go figure. Best - DEL
Take a look at my article: http://www.1stsearchenginerankings....-supplemental-results-and-how-to-get-removed/ Tells you what you need to know. Don't use 404 it won't work.
