does anyone know of a tutorial to superimpose images in PS? like placing a guy who wasn't originally in the picture, or replacing an existing guy with another guy?

You mean like cuting out persons from one pic to another?
I don't know any tuts about that, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Maybe http://www.good-tutorials.com or http://www.pixel2life.com could help.

well those tutorials usually assume you are an intermediate PS user...plus i don't even know what that term is called (i call it superimposing), so i have no idea what to search for.

You simply need to learn how to work with layers. I did support for Adobe for a while and this was a common call we'd get. The best thing I can suggest for you is to open two images, make a selection from one, copy the selection, then paste it into the second image. Zoom in and use the eraser tool to fine-touch up your selection a bit (make sure you're on the new layer).

You really need to learn how to work with layers if you want to do what you're talking about. Since this IS an intermediate skill, you need to be an intermediate PS user.

Yep. Layers is the ticket. Paste the superimosed image into the existing one as a new layer. Then cutout around the object of interest.
