Well, I had the first two calls right (the coin toss would be heads, and that Devin Hester would return the opening kickoff for a touchdown - my brother's jaw just DROPPED when the prediction I made just a minute before came true), but the Indianapolis Colts managed to beat the Chicago Bears 29-17 to win Super Bowl XLI. Am I happy? Not really. This was one of the sloppiest games I have ever seen (no, I'm not referring to the play-calling; they did an excellent job on that front). I'm blaming the weather and the Chicago defense.

Blame Rex Grossman all you want, but it was NOT his fault. It was raining ALL day and he was being forced to play on his "back" foot when he was on the field (don't forget, Rex is essentially a rookie; this was his first full NFL season afterall - his previous seasons were ended either within the first three games or before the season started due to what could have been potentially CAREER ending injuries), and to lead a team to the Super Bowl in his first full year is an accomplishment in and of itself. Any QB that can do that deserves to feel proud.

If anything, the Chicago DEFENSE should be held accountable for losing this game. They did not cover the Colts offense the way they should have. Not only were they chasing offensive linemen, but they were also not covering their zones at all. Chicago got out-played, plain and simple. The vaunted Chicago defense did not play to its full capabilities, despite not having Tommie Harris and Mike Brown in the lineup (due to injuries that ended their season long ago).

At any rate, I have to give props to both Chicago and Indianapolis for playing hard and playing well all season, despite both teams' respective problems and "monkeys on the back" (Good/Bad Rex and season-ending injuries to key players for Chicago, and the Indy defense's "drug problem" - getting drug up and down the field during the regular season). For both teams to play with class and act like gentlemen (even in defeat) despite their shortcomings (and the weather) says a lot about these two franchises; for one, I not only hope, but look forward to a Chicago-Indianapolis rematch next year in Super Bowl XLII.

Sigh? Are you kidding... look at what the bears accomplished this year with that pathetic QB... you should be full of joy they made it as far as they did... lucky for them the NFC is full of loser teams.
