Now that the Pro Bowl is over with (whether or not you’re happy about that), we’ve got just under a week before the Super Bowl.Super Bowl 2013 live . As we count down the days to the biggest game of the year, let’s take a look around the league at some of the noteworthy stories out there in the NFL.
Pro Bowl: If you missed the NFL’s version of the All-Star Game yesterday, it was the usual high-scoring fare. The NFC emerged victorious in a 62-35 blowout that wasn’t nearly as close as that score indicates. Kyle Rudolph, the tight end from Minnesota, was voted the MVP of the game with five grabs for 122 and a score. Whether or not we’ll have a Pro Bowl next year remains to be seen, but in the meantime it will remain a topic of conversation around the league.

Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets: If Sanchez didn’t play under the bright lights of the New York media--and hadn’t been struggling these past couple of seasons--we wouldn’t be talking about him as much as we do. That being said, we’ve got another Sanchez nugget this morning. New Jets GM John Idzik was recently reported as saying that he’s “comfortable” with the much-maligned QB, which likely makes many Jets fans groan. His sentiments are likely motivated by money, however: the team would take a $12.8 million cap hit if Sanchez was cut. In any case, get used to seeing him in a Jets jersey.
Randy Moss, WR, San Francisco 49ers: San Francisco’s Super Bowl run has sparked some new life into longtime vet Moss. The 35-year-old reportedly plans to play at least one more year--assuming he can get a new deal, that is. Moss had 28 catches for 434 yards and three TDs, but his real value lies in his experience and leadership ability.
Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ers: Sticking with the Niners for a moment, there’s a report out there this morning that says Smith will ask to be released from the team once the season is officially finished. San Francisco would likely be more inclined to trade him if they can get a decent offer. Regardless, the decisions will have to be made before April 1st, when Smith’s salary becomes fully guaranteed.
