My current 19" LCD is getting a little old now and since I seem to be spending most of my time developing in Visual Studio 2005 it's time for an additional LCD monitor. The new widescreen format of 1680x1050 do not seem ideal since the vertical resolution is very important for developing. I reckon either a 1600x1200(20") or 1920x1200(24") would be ideal. I'm going to keep my old Philips LCD (1280x1024) in a dual setup so that I can place some of those VS2005 windows to the right! Is a 24" LCD too big to sit in front of at a desk for long periods? Any view/recommendation would be much appreciated, thanks.
Hi, Yes 24" is very large to sit in front for a long period. I ve been using a 19" and found my self rubbing my eyes after 12 hours of work. If you really are concentrating on long sits, i suggest you buy another 19" LCD. If you plan to watch movies regularly, 24" would be the best. Sahel
Thanks sahel, I've got a 19" LCD at the moment and so long as I take regular breaks it's fine. What I really need is a larger resolution display to make coding easier - I use a dual 20" (1600x1200) /19" (1280x1024) setup when I am working away but I need a new larger display for when I am at home working. So the question is do I get a 20" (1600x1200) or a 24" (1920x1200)? Anyone work in front of a 24" display? Thanks.
I havent ever worked on a 2 foot screen So take your choice and let me know what you buy and how it is!!

Thanks pkrumins - some great comments. I need to have the new BenQ FP241W 24" Widescreen HDMI/HDCP LCD HD Monitor - Black of course! - Full HD Support (1080p) - HDMI Interface - PIP (Picture-in-Picture) - senseye technology! - Full pivot, swivel and height adjustment - Built in USB Hub (3 Ports) - 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) Optimum Resolution - 16.7 Million Colours - 1000:1 Contrast Ratio - 6ms Response Time - 500 cd/m2 Brightness - Viewing angle: 178/178 - One DVI-D Input - One Analogue Input - One S-Video Input - One Composite component Input - One HDMI Input - VESA mounting compatible / Security slot : Yes (100mm) / Yes It seems to be getting great reviews. I use a dual LCD setup at work and thats the reason I must have a dual set-up at home. The BenQ 24" + my 19" LCD will work very well together. Having seen a 24" display it doesn't actually seem that big! I'll let you all know what I decide.
