If you are reasonably suspected of something and the police detain you because they believed they had evidence and they thought you might run, I don't think you have much of a shot. I live in the US and I am not a lawyer, though.

Besides, you can't make a post like that and not tell us what you wre accused of!

He/she is saying that they were incarcerated for one week. The acquittal came 6 months after the arrest; probably once he/she appeared in court.

Well if he/she was allowed bail and only inprisoned for a week you wont be able to sue the police, any one sueing the police will only recieve minimal payouts i believe if your shot by the police your only recieve around £10 000.

Unless your a minority, than you can claim racism and discrimination etc and more likely to succed in a court case, For example the anti-terrorists raid in london where 2 muslims were arreasted and one was shot, it is being discussed they gets compensation of around £500 000 (max) for liabilties including wrongful arrest, however for being shot they are suing for £30 000.

Even if you are successful in your claim, you won't be inline for much, most likly only for liabilites which counts for loss of income. But i wouldnt hold much hope out.

The POLICE CAN NOT ARREST YOU on theyre own choise. They nead a warant for arresting anybody, they can't do arrest because just so they want.
If you got a WARANT on your name, that WARANT should be given by a judge... i mean police can KEEP A SUSPECT , and give him to JUSTICE, but in most UE countries... they can't keep you in ARREST

Yes but the police can apply for extend time from a judge to hold them longer, or he might of been suspected of terrorism in which laws are different. Also if he was charged which he was he may of been held untill the first court hearing where he would of got bail.

Police cant do what they want, however custom and excise technaically have the power to arrest and detain suspects on kinda huntches.

Of course they can, are you saying if the police catch you with a bloody knife in your hand and a guy in a pool of blood with you saying "I'm glad I killed the bastard" that they'd have to go off and get a warrant before they could arrest you?

They have to get warrants to search property, though they can search a person on the street with 'reasonable' grounds to suspect that they've been engaging in criminal activity.
