I recently updated my homepage, and have changed my targetted keyword, whilst researching the competition i wrote down some of my results. Google Results 1 - 10 of about 19,100,000 4 Blue Widget site 1) PR6 - 312 BL - Keyword in title - Dmoz listings (2) - keyword in url site 2) PR5 - 21 BL - Keyword not in title - Dmoz listings (3) - keyword in url site 3) PR5 - 40 BL - Keyword in title - Dmoz listings (0) - keyword in url site 4) PR6 - 113 BL - Keyword in title - Dmoz listings (1) - keyword not in url site 5) PR6 - 284 BL - Keyword not in title - Dmoz listings (2) - keyword not in url so you can see the top 5 results, so i further searched the number 1 spot, and out of the 312 backlinks it has over 70% of them are from the dmoz clones and also a few of them are from .org websites. now, mysite) PR4 - 242 BL - Keyword In Title - Dmoz Listings (0) - Keyword not in url "blue widget" is search for 1,242.3/day on (US) overture and 549.0/day on wordtracker. Would you say that "blue widget" is a competitive term? How much would it take to rank for this site? Any other opinions? cheers
cool i would be happy with just a top 10 listing im trying to target and establish some non-competitive keywords before walking the plank and targetting the competitive ones.
just to update i am now at 11th place on yahoo for "blue widget" only thing ive changed is on-page SEO, and about 5 - 10 links with "blue widget" as anchor text so yahoo is definatly paying attension to on-page stuff more than inbound links.
every link from internal pages that points to the page has "blue widget" as anchor (minus a few i have yet to change, they still contain red widget as anchor), plus about 5 inbound links with "blue widget", also i had a tonne of links (inbound) that use a similar keyword for e.g. blue widget = google adsense and red widget = google search would red widget help the blue widget at all?
check your bl links like normall and the dmoz clones are easy to spot for e.g. you would have a load of links from pages that have this kinda ending /opd.php?kid_and_teens/teen_life/ or similar.
