Hey guys- Ive used the standard seo tools to review and analyze my competitor- but even with serious backlink building (paid high pr links, link blasts, SBM, directory submissions, 2.0 links etc) Im still having a hard time overtaking this guy-

    Any suggestions?
ps- MORE links isn't what I'm thinking- as i've done a ton more links than the competitor
pss- onpage seo has been done.

what are your current positions in google ... if u are 2 and he is 1 then its not that difficult. Cause 2 and 1 get almost the same traffic. but if you are lower down then try to put more content on your site. About ur keyword. The more enriched your page is the more ur page will be rewarded.
Analyse ur page adn competitors page with SEOmoz's Domain Authority and Page Authority tools ... See what is the difference.
Many times its not ton of backlinks but good content and page that leads the race.

Start a blog and write a bunch of articles about your company and how its different than the rest. Build backlinks and feebdback to your site through your blog.

    Hi Brian,
Drop me a PM with your (and your competitors URL) if you think it is not the links issue (btw, have you taken a close look over your competitors link profile and tried to even get links from the same resources too?)

It the secret is not in number of backlinks, then probably in the content of the page!

I would try to build more links, through social media, article marketing, etc and monitor your position.
It really depends on the age/authority of the site you are trying to beat as well

A suggestion I haven't seen is building links with that specific keyword as the anchor text. Two suggestions I do agree with are content is king so more legit content is always better so add content and the other was the blog, blogs are great for internal link building as well as driving traffic from other keywords that could eventually help you overtake the competitor.

Don't stop link building. Sure it feels like its taking you nowhere now but it will eventually. I was in the same spot in Google for weeks and I just kept on link building but after so long I ranked higher.

try to increase you twitter follower and face book fan, this will increase your traffic , make some helpful article and distribute them, try press release, yahoo questions & answer, make blog comment.
but never use promotion language this will wash-up all your effort.
