Suggestions on best use of Buy Text Links for PR 6 site

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by cmeinck, Oct 17, 2006.

I have decent traffic, do farely well in the rankings and my site is PR6. I'm thinking about "renting" a text link from BuyTextLinks from a high PR site. I'm hoping this will improve my PR and possibly bring some traffic.

Q: To really get any benefit from buying/renting a text link, what are the requirements? (link live timeframe, related topic)

Lastly, is this type of investment worth it? Any other benefits?

Any advice and recommendations are appreciated.

One link? I think you need to broaden your scope a bit. What are you goals? More traffic? More PR (for ego reasons - not business related)? Better positioning in SERPs? Answer those questions first, then I think people can better guide you.

I'm open to multiple links or the big buy of a PR 8. SERP's are most important. I don't sell links on my site, so PR is nothing more than a badge of honor. I covet it, but I understand it's usefulness (which isn't much outside of ego reasons). So, definitely SERPs and possibly traffic. I'm guessing the latter wouldn't be much to speak of, but I could be wrong. The thing that concerns me is the link being removed and how that would affect Google. I can see the positives of having a high PR link, but how long does it need to be live to see returns. Do those returns diminish once it's removed?

This is a great topic of discussion. I always wondered the value of a good high PR backlink on SE results.

I do believe and have see other respected SE experts speculate that the backlink would carry a lot more wieght in improving SE rankings if the link is a related topic.

Of course the returns diminish once it is removed - immediately actually - not just diminish. Honestly, you need to think long term. What keywords do you want to place for in the SERPs? You need links for all the keywords. Plus, just having a link from a PR8 and few other links may be an interesting indicator to Google - although I am not sure about that. Think about distributing your risk - getting relevant links that use different keyword phrases. Pretend any one of your links could be made worthless on any one day - then you will stop thinking about putting big money into one PR8 link.

    Anyone disagree?

Good Point phynder. Considering that for a highly competitive keyword, someone else could sweep you right away, investing heavily in a single high PR text link, may not make sense.

I actually agree with you, but always wondered how guys like BuyTextLinks and others were doing well. I've tried to focus on one way lifetime links, directories and dabbled in articles. I could be doing better in all phases. I thought if this were a good option, I'd add this to my strategy. Due to the cost, I wasn't sure it was worth it. Sounds as if it's not. Just checked and it's $175 for a PR7 for one month.

Well, they are doing well because they are the brokers! Brokers always do well - does a stock broker care if the stock he sold you goes down? Heck no! He still gets paid. The same with TLA. I do think they are providing a good service and that is another reason why they are doing well. $175 a month for a PR7 - yikes. Take a look at their lower PR sites and see how you can use that same $175 across multiple sites with a variety of anchors - but also don't spread the anchors too thin - there is a balance. Of course I have no idea what the balance is...

$175 - WOW - that's 'spensive! I only have a PR4 but have some spots I could make available for $10 for two months. You'd be among less than 10 text links per page. Adbrite hasn't been doing nuttin for me so far... PM me and we'll talk.
