Hi all, I've had Gizmo-Central up for a couple of months and it's just not pulling the interest that I'm wanting in return for the effort I input. I average 2 posts per day, 5-6 days per week, but I am lucky to get 3 clicks per week. Thus, as you can see, the income vs. effort is pretty low. Views are in the range of 33 or so per day tops. I try to stay on the "fun" side of gadgets/gizmos, so I almost never will post the cell phone/pocket-PC stuff that is common at gizmo sites. I guess that's my "niche". I'd love to hear suggestions - either here or via PM if you prefer. I was thinking that a "general" gizmo site is not the best and I should pursue a more "niche gizmo" site but I'm not sure about what direction to take that. I have chatted with several gadget/gizmo site owners and all are making nice money from their sites, but if I keep growing at the rate I've been, it'll take decades which just isn't worth it. I'm willing to put-in the work if I think something will pay off, but at the same time, if this will never pay-off, I'd prefer make changes or even work on other ideas. Thanks, Mike
I think the images are too big. With smaller image you would be able to have more content that is easily readable.
i agree to jeeps the images are too big that makes the contents seems to be very less. Also try to include more contents that make user to click on "Read the rest of this entry » "
The font size looks ok to me. If you do have quality content and you add new articles daily, it should be just a matter of time. Submit your site and feed to directories, write articles and submit those too, you know... all the basic link building.
The site looks good, good navigation on the side. I think it needs more color/image/content on the index so it will grab the viewer's attention more.
Thanks for the input everybody. I have wondered about the photo size and font size (the site is definitely not friendly for dial-up!) but on any reasonably decent resolution screen I've viewed it on, it was OK. I worried that with resolutions trending higher, if I made the stuff smaller, as more people get 1600x1200 or similar, things would look very small. However, I will consider those size changes. I'll definitely start putting more content before the "more" for the index page - that's a good idea. I wanted to get people into the content specific AdSense page, vs. the generic index, but I agree that if things aren't interesting enough to "click for more" that doesn't do any good @iceblink: What do you have in mind when you say "more color"? Any particular area on the page or ideas you have in mind? I appreciate the input from you all and will see what I can work-out over the upcoming holiday time-off. Thanks, Mike
