I'm looking to hire an editor/writer for my site. It's a very specific niche, so I'm looking for someone with experience with a particular product. I have considered advertising on my site, but I'm concerned that I'd get too many unqualified applicants. It's important for me to get a very qualified writer. Any suggestions on where I can place an ad or find someone? Thanks in advance.
You are going to get unqualified applicants no matter what you do. It's a fact of life. Perhaps start by listing the product here. It's free and you never know. It's also free to tell someone no.
Absolutely right, disregard your effort you will always get a reply for people wantint to apply to whatever is posted
You can try a forum closely related to your niche, or set up a cattle call for writers on a forum such as this. Many writers also have threads or offer their services via signature, so you could also "research" the writers around the forums and approach ones that seem to meet your standards. Rebecca
You can try searching for articles in your niche and check out with the article, whose style and quality you liked. Poking around your niche forums might work as well, as been suggested.
If you want a "very qualified" writer, you'll probably have to pay the kinds of rates they charge. You might find a few in forums, but honestly it sounds like you're not looking for someone new to the game (not that all of us here are... but if you post a job opening in a forum like this, you're bound to get a lot who are). In that case, you should look into posting the position on sites where larger groups of professional writers "hang out" - like www.mediabistro.com or www.journalismjobs.com. You could also try the bidding sites... people leave their bids and comments but won't be hounding you privately so much, and then you simply make your decision. Might be a good option for you. Jenn
Thanks for your input. I actually got lucky and found someone through MediaBistro. Their search feature leaves a lot to be desired. I actually did a search through Google and came across someone who fits the bill. In reaching out to a few writers, I was disturbed by the responses --- which were usually one liners askinig "how much does it pay". I guess they must get a lot of requests for work at low rates. In any event, I'm siked about the writer I hired this morning and have high hopes it will yield positive results on the site.
