you could get a samsung laptop in the price range of 45k with following specs:
    core 2 duo (2.2 i guess)
    160 GB HDD
    1 GB ram
    DVD writer
    15 " screen
    wi-fi enabled
    card reader integrated
and a lot of other goodies as well.

Dell Inspiron. There cheap and powerful. Plus delivery is free and you can buy online. I picked up a high performance one for $1500 USD.

    I'm buying it!

i had two dells (inspirons) and they both died. I would not recommend them unless you go for the XPS Notebooks.

Yeah the MacBook Air is very sexy... to bad it doesn't have an optical drive... But I guess that's how it's so thin.

    45k, 50k? What currency it is? :)
MacBook Air is very nice, but it is not made as "main" PC, it is more like secondary PC (also very portable) .
I would suggest also check how long the battery can last :D

Toshiba is crap, I have one now and it was defective when I got it (DVD drive has shorted and audio doesn't work.) They then expect me to send it away for 4-8 weeks (longer if parts are on backorder) for repair though I have only had it a month.
Apple is great if you can afford it. Every Apple I have ever had still works perfectly minus my destruction of the operating system picking through it.
Dell is by far my favorite economy system. They offer extended warranties out to four years with in home repair service and accidental coverage. I like this but I have found that the three Dells I have had have relied heavily on their warranties to continue running.
Compaq (before the HP buyout) had 4 services in 9 months and I ended up getting a refund after they sent me a replacement model a year and a half older than the one I had purchased.
Gateway while nice has never offered me a price I thought was competitive among economy systems. I have used them several times and like the layout but can not speak for their long term performance.
Sony's sales reps wouldn't answer the phone after three attempts to contact them during a week day.
Sager Technologies - Well lets just say my employer gave me one as a work system one time and I hated the computer so much I no longer work for that employer as a result.

Which ever you choose I recommend researching online first then call the sales department. Not only do these people get a commission on your sale but they often have deals that you can't find online. (I purchased a Mac Mini last year with my student discount and was given a free iPod Nano, all in one printer, and usb keyboard. 3 year Apple Care was discounted to $100 as well. When I purchased my last Dell notebook it was already 30% off, when I called sales they were running an additional 12% off with $425 worth of rebates for various things I was getting already.)
