Suggestion: Selling in BST (Sites) - link to site MUST be included.

My suggestion is for any sites up for sale in the BST section and it is that any sales thread MUST include a link to the site.

There should be NONE of this 'PM me for url' nonsense as this inevitably leads to an endless stream of pointless 'PM me the url' or 'url please' posts - sometimes pages worth.

A simple link in the opening post of the sales thread would eradicate these pointless posts and make it much simpler for anyone browsing the Sites-for-sale section.

People prefer to deal privately as its best for business in large sales. DP doesn't get involved in sales, if the seller doesn't want to have a public viewing of the site they don't have to.

I can see why people don't want live links but they can easily attach an image with the link in it and then later go to their control panel and delete the attachment.

It would make the threads alot cleaner.

That would do it I guess. :)

As far as I know any sites for sale on Sitepoint for example, always list the url. Don't see why DP should be different in that respect.

don't sitepoint remove old sales so they can't be indexed?

The problem here is that some buyers don't want the history of their sites to be visible. Never mind that archive.org shows the dirty laundry for all to see ;)

Oh. Do they? Didn't know. I only scan through Sitepoint very rarely.

Yes, I can understand the buyers / sellers don't want the sales history of the site to be visible but these nonsense threads that can stretch to several pages of 'pm me the url' are just that - nonsense. There's no need for it.

I think you made good proposal for the search engine shy sellers about adding an attachment giving the url then deleting it once the sale is over.

At least that would take care of the endless 'PM me the url' posts a person has to wade through.

I think DP should have a custom plugin made. Almost like the "I agree" plugin you see on some forums like seochat.com.

It would be a simple button indside the thread where we could click "I want more info" and the seller could see that. It wouldnt count as a post or a bump on the thread and would be just as effective.

There is also the DMOZ issue, as more and more DMOZ editors tend to remove sites from DMOZ if they see links anywhere or even if they see sites for sale. :(

Between convenience and privacy, I choose privacy. It really is a non issue as far as I'm concerned.

So basically, please don't fix something that doesn't need fixing.

    Just my humble view.

    Regards, George

All (at least most) decisions are made as a group.
