    hello everyone.

as some of you know in the previous posts, I am planning to make a 2nd website that is text based instead of my 1st media based.

I am planning to make a fiction based website where I will write some myself, add my friends' works and also let people submit their works.

here's the thing. should I make it VERY specific on the genre or make it WIDER? for example, Fantasy + Romance fictions ONLY vs. ALL genre fictions.

it seems like if it's ALL genre, then there will definitely be more traffic while I still can write in fantasy + romance section.

but can you guys please tell me the advantages and disadvantages of the 2 options?

    thanks a lot.

    anyone?

I guess I should rephrase my question to ..
what are the advantages and dis-advantages of holding a BIG site compare to a small, narrower topic site?

obviously, big one will get more traffic since different kinds of people can come. but I thought about how it might be harder to handle.

I would like to know what you guys think.

You could approach this from a number of different directions:

Content -- you should concentrate on what you know and seek to provide excellent content, therefore stick to the niche you can handle best -- fantasy / romance.

SEO -- how do you intend to get traffic to your site / what keywords will you optimise your links around? Use a tool such as the Keyword Selector Tool @ inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ to discover keywords that will give you a fighting chance. If you can find keywords in your niches that look healthy then use those, otherwise you need to cast your net wider.

Start specialized: that way the site will amount to something that people will voluntarily link to sooner. You can slowly branche out as things grow. If you are thinking of broadening the subject base later on, make sure the domain-name is not too specific to your niche. For fiction some sort of nice sounding domain-name that can become a brand at some point would be a good idea.

I believe you have an interest in fantasy video games. Well, your best bet would be to create a site on that. These pay quite well and can draw traffic quite easily.

I think there is more of an advantage in keeping your site to a narrow focus. Its easier to SEO if its a more narrow focus. Besides the more specialised your topic, the more relevant your adsense ads will be. Which should mean higher click through rates.

I have multiple subjects on my site and only see irrelevant ads when new articles have just been put up. Google knows how to target ads. Don't worry about it.

kh7, you have a good point.

I was going to name my site "When Fantasy Meets Romance" ... but after hearing about how the title should be broader so I can expand later on. I think I'll name it something like "Fiction Dreamers", "The Fictioners", "Heaven of Fictions" or so...

    thanks for all the suggestions.
