Suggestion on how to move SMF-forum to Kunena - is this possible?

We are moving our forum platform from SMF to Kunena and our main concern was not losing Google rank and indexation.

We got a new suggestion on how to do this:

/Create a PHP or other script that handles 404 errors and maps old URLs to new URLs with HTTP 301 Moved permanently.
Its possible to create such a mapping by querying Google or your old forum database.
Mapping can be stored in CSV file or just a PHP array./

Does this sound like a possibility?

Any idea and/or suggestion is appreciated. Thanks
