Suggestion needed for a new website

I am creating a new website which allows people to create, manage and upload text based coding projects. It will have a store where you can sell your work with a forum and blog talking about the latest programming techniques. This will be a community designed, built and run by developers. I have some great ideas but need some other programmers and developers to input their ideas and feature they would like see in a website like this. Any suggestions will be welcome by either this post or private message. Thanks in advance.

    Quoting you :
Is like saying creating another website that already does the things that you mentioned .

Before you start a project , you need to ask yourself "Why would someone use a website for uploading text , and not the one that exist already and are quite popular?"
And based on this question / answer, you need to come up with new ideas , to attract people to use it ..

The store idea .. Hmm .. I'm not sure what to say about this .. What's the point of creating something and then waiting for it to sell ? It might not sell , so it could be a waste of time . I prefer to use a freelancing website .. Someone ask, I do it .. But not the other way around .

Yes I know , I haven't given you any ideas or suggestions concerning your project , but I was just trying to make a point, to give you an advice..

I'd rather store the files on my own server and promote my script on your site... and there are loads of sites where I can do that.

I can see no benefit in letting you safeguard my intellectual property.

Well the website will be stored on amazon cloud which will allow people to access their code anywhere. It will be more like github where you can safely store you code. With the ability to upload milestones, deadlines and to-do lists. It will be a place where you can work either on your own or as a group. The idea is to make it easier to just login in to one place and work on your website. Without having to upload to a server you can just edit live online. When i get a bit more revenue, i will allow people to run their code on through website with multiple database type to make it easier to update and push the code to either their site or a script for sale. I will set up a marketplace where you can find people will to help with you code. The store will be the same as like binpress or codecanyon but in a way where you can get more revenue after the original sale which is the biggest problem with their site. Once you sell it then you cannot make any more money off it. so you can sell 5000 but then you will not get any more money out of it. I have an idea of how to do that but i want to keep that private for the time being.

That's quite an undertaking. Good luck and let us know when you launch!

very interesting ideas you have put forward.
well some people do make it easy for you to find them from the demos they have over there, but i love some of your ideas you have put forward. In the past, I have wanted to pay for the extended license for some of the products listed their, but the agreement did not cover what I needed to do, so it worked out the only option was to hire someone else people to make something almost identical. Thats not just a sale that was lost, but the chance to profit from a more flexible license agreement.

Alternatively, if we look at their hosting templates, (and other ready made sites) we all know that launching a site that is identical to other sites is not ideal. Users really should replace most of the images, and customize the site (but they dont). More then likely the original creator would be happy to do customization (for a fee, perhaps sold in packs of 5 hours, or a min of 5hours work with per the hour billing after that), and people would feel more comfortable in hiring the original creator, rather then hiring randomers on freelancing sites. Considering that it is commercial software, someone hiring freelancers to modify templates is NOT in the best interests of the original creator (to easy for copies to be made).
so if you had a way for people to pay for the license, pay for xx hours of mods (be it coding changes, or image changes etc) then it works out very well for everyone involved.

If you view the site in my sig, that was done by someone I met from themeforest. And I would love an easier way of hiring these people. It shouldnt be like fiverr where they are hired as soon as someone pays, but more, where the money is held by the system until the person "accepts" the project, almost like the ebay "offer" system, where once the project details and pricing are agreed on and accepted by both, the buyer then pays the system and the project is started.

I invision a system where you might be able to get projects where its $xxx (but allowed to be resold on their site) or $xxxx and its 100% unique and will never be resold. This could very well see an influx of ideas, where the people with those ideas, could never afford to develop them, and your site might very well gain some very unique code that no other site has, and it will bring in people looking for custom small projects, to massive projects, as well as bringing in people that are seeking a ready made off the shelf solution.
