Suggestion needed: Best Forum? VBulletin, PHBbb, SMF

I just wanted to get some input on what people think is the best forum set up.

My hosting co. has an agreement and works exclusively with SMF, which to be honest, I don't like quite as much as VB. I've only used it briefly so I may not be aware of everything it has to offer...

What are most of you using? ...and is there an advantage to using one over the other? $ is not an issue for me...I'll pay for a good forum if I have to.

    Thanks.

vBulletin is the way to go if you have cash. It has most of the features you'd ever want from a forum already built in If you don't have cash, or are simply cheap (like me) PHPbb is a good way to go, although if you want the feature set of vBulletin you're going to have to mod the heck out of it. Invision Power Board is also pretty decent, but if you're going to spend money on a forum license, you might as well get VB.

VB or die! (maybe an overstatement, but yes VB is the way to go)

I'd only launch a serious forum with vBulletin.

    ^Good comment.

I would suggest buying a vb if your not going to put its potential to it.

However, if you have the funds to do so and just to fool around it, by all means go for it.

Dont want to bust your bubble lol. :p

Agree, IPB has features that vBulletin lacks, being easier setting up private forums and paid subscriptions, not to mention countless skins, mods and hacks.

And for those who like certain spy features, passing your mouse over a member's name displays the time of his/her last movement around.

    Invision looks more stylish.
vBSEO (vBulletin with SEO tweaks) would be the choice, if not Invision.
