    That's not a bad open rate, really.

    Direct Marketers make their living (and fortunes) on a 1/2% response rate.

    So now that you know what your open rate is, are you tracking click-throughs and conversions?

    Getting them to open the email is a good first step.

    The money is made when they click through to your site and place the order.

    I've used PHPlist. It works well, but you have to be comfortable setting it up. Also, you should check if there are hourly email limits imposed by your hosting provider. If so, you will need to configure it to throttle the number of emails it send per hour.
