I am a college student who created a sports blog in December. I plan on using this summer to really improve the overall look/design of the site, and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the current look: Blog: http://tylertomea.blogspot.com/ @TylerTomea on Twitter
Just stick to basic fundamentals. Remember, your purpose of your website should be to attract loyal visitors..not win some art or beauty contest. At least that's the goal for over 75% of websites out there. You definately don't want an eye sore for a website but you don't need anything over the top either -just keep it nice and clean. Believe me, there are plenty of 'average' looking websites out there getting the job done. Instead, focus on things about your site that could make your visitor's experience more interesting, convenient and painless as possible. The type of READERS you plan on attracting to your blog will be your greatest inspiration for a website design. But here are some concrete tips for improving your site: *Don't distract your visitors with blinking or scrolling text, animated GIFs, or auto-loading sound. *Don't annoy your visitors with pop-up windows. *Don't use image backgrounds. *Put some thought into organization. *Include a way to get back to the home page, on every page. *Don't let flashy multimedia ruin your site. *No line of text should be more than about 650 pixels wide. *Don't make your page too narrow or too wide. *Use contrasting colors or simple backgrounds to make your text easy to read. In other words, don't use dark text with dark backgrounds or light text with light backgrounds. *Make the text large enough to read. These are just a few basic fundamentals but hopefuly these will help you get going.
Hi buddy, you need to work on the banner, make it's image less wide, and change the text police in it, it's not so cool also the background image isn't great, find another one that you don't need to repeat, or remove it completely make the article title more distinguished, because as they are, you can't see where a post ends, and another begins try to use excepts in the home page, instead of displaying the whole posts, because it's tooooo long but I like the simplicity of the blog hope that helps, cheers mate.
