Even tough your website title is to long, you sould know that, changing it you will loose the most important SERPS you acquired until now. I see that now, you rank good for many keywords:

    programming discussion
    computer discussion technical
    programming discussion forum
    programming discussion forums
    computer forum problem technical
    technical articles in computer
    computer programming forums

    So, you have 2 choices:

First is that you change the title with one of the keywords that brings the most trafic and you are not first in serps. (If you are first for it don't change it). Maybe look for better keywords with keyword suggest sites. Do this only if you are not satisfied with what you got until now, you'll have a 3-6 monts of low trafic, until the new titles take effect.

The second is not changing it, meaning that you can only improve the keywords you got now, even if it will be hard because you got many in the title and their power diminishes. This way you'll have a small growth, with limited maximum visitors to the power of the actual words. But no risk.

    Good luck!

    hey idotemplates

    thanks for the reply.

I am thinking of doing some experiment on the site to see what title, description, and keywords are really working for my site in getting traffic from search engines.

What i am thinking is creating 2-3 html versions of the home page
    for e.g. home1.html,home2.html,home3.html etc..
each version containing different meta tags and keywords and on page content.

will search engine penalize me for this?
    will this method help me?

Be carefull not to fall into the bad "doorway" pages practice. I do not understand exactly what you want to do, try to explain it in more details. The doorway pages are pages that are created especially for the search engine to bring you visitors, they are not created for the users. There are strict polices against this at Google.

You can test this in a simple way. If you can't get to them by the normal navigation, they are doorway pages. For example how will you point to the home1, home2 pages from your home.html. You can't create menus with similar titles or with almost the same words.
