okay so now that my site is redesigned and up I would really love to have my first sale. my website: http://www.softmall.org okay so seeing my site give me some input any input on how to get buyers here. Which methods can I use to get sales? should I consider adwords ?? as of SEO all I know is that i got the title tage, and keywords all up. well anyone? im open to any suggestions.
Hmm... I'd consider the following question: how your site is different from for example download.com? What's the main benefit I get through your site?
lol, you tell me. thats why i posted this thread. before the redesigning and all my site looked like this : http://www.downloads.softmall.org so after realizing it may not be good, i designed the new one which is http://www.softmall.org now as for designing and look, i can not improve it any more, what is now is all i can do. so any other ideas
Nope... YOU tell me. It doesn't matter how you design your site or how it looks. First you gotta figure out why would somebody buy stuff through your site? (and who would buy). So... if you cannot answer "how are you different from download.com"... then people will decide "no way" - and go to download.com instead.
dude, I cant answer that question, or I dont know what the answer to that question is. first of download.com is not the only shareware site out there, and I have no intention of competing with them. take www.tech-pro.net as an example, it is also a shareware site yet i know for a fact that it is making BIG $$$$$. so how is that different from download.com??? i want to be just another shareware, who makes atleast 2 sales a day. so now any actual tips??
Alright, this is good answer. In that case, you need to get more traffic. You need get traffic to your site so much that people find it when they search for those products (correct me if I'm wrong, but you are providing software that's available elsewhere, right?) So, basically, you need: - Traffic (there's plenty of threads where to start from) - Improve your website layout so that the traffic converts to sales Hope this helps
you need to make it clearer (or atleast more instantly clear) what your are selling or what your site is about. I had a quick look, but got bored and gave up. The site looks nice, but you need to hit the users with the information they need asap. People won't stumble accross your site and read around for something to buy. Instead they will land on your site due to what they are looking for, instantly see they are on the right site (they are getting wehat they need), and then this will convert towards a sale.
I think you're basically missing what Game Producer is trying to say. As I understand his message, you need to not only ask yourself how your site is different from others but also IF it is different. If not, it's time to make some layout changes and make the presentation more interesting. General advice from me would be to concentrate more on SEO and adding more software to offer until your site gains enough momentum to rank high in the SERPs for broad keywords. Cheers
ya I agree you need to be different from others in your category to be successful. I don't think with your site design you will ever get 2 sale a month. first it took a lot of click just to get to the product information page. I believe there are thousands of similar site like you so do you think your visitor would stay a bit longer to get what they want when they have seen better site. take for example download.com and that tech site. their homepage is very customer friendly. if you want to excel in this biz follow them and put some unique quality to differentiate your site from them.
hei try using article marketing... it's the good way to promote site that sales something... try it first... hire some one write something about your site... after that hire someone to submit your article at free directory or you make your self
the_punisher,you are a great guy and honest, liked your answer to Game Producer.i think every body has the right to put his time and money into whatever venture he likes.that's why there is so many grocery stores out there and not everybody shops from walmart.i'm sure by building traffic to your site you can earn some money.you should work on your homepage design and make it clearer that whats the purpose of your site.
Hi I cannot comment too much about your site appearance this is not my niche, I did however note from your site the title and keywords you were trying to optimise for SEO purposes. This is your onpage optimisation, I noted a previous comment regarding the use of articles. Articles can be very effective, although they can take so time to circulate. Lets say you have 10 to 20 good keywords you would like to rank well for, what you need to do is have an article written for each one of these. Your keyword should be contained in the title of the article and no more than once each paragraph, any more than this and you can be accused of spamming. You are allowed to sell your service by use of a resource box, with a link back to your site. If you follow this strategy you will be receiving backlinks from the directories you submit to. If you don't want to write the articles yourself I'm sure that some one on this forum would do it for you.
Just a copywriter's input: - wasting the headline to say "Welcome to..." is definitely not helping. The homepage generic copy as a whole does more harm than good. If you really want to show off the "noble" goals behind the website, use the "About Us" page - your best bet to make some sales is to showcase a few shareware software packages on the front page. Not necessarily the "hottest", but maybe the most interesting ones - test, test, test. Multivariate testing is a must for this sort of website. Don't take anything for granted and don't hesitate to play around. - try to spin an unique angle for your website. This is harder than you might think and should be put in the long term goals list. Hope this helps. Regards, George
