There are the obvious paid tools like WordTracker, but one of the best FREE keyword tools that I have found is Aaron Wall's keyword tool. Check it out when you get a chance.

 

I used tools.seobook.com . gives better output with wordtracker, google, yahoo and msn counts separately along with google trends and more (of course free). When i started i used to research main keyword and this tool suggests many related keywords. You may immediately see the competition and other stats.
