Suggest cms for educational content

    Hi,

I'm planning a content management site, where I and users / students can participate in updating their content after signup.

i'm not sure which one will be best joomla, drupal or wiki ? or anything else..?

i'm looking for something simpler easy to understand cms. Joomla dupal etc are bit complicated, we as in web industry can do it easily but for those who are not in this they find it bit hard to understand..

please suggest me.. where users/students can upload their docs, content and even admin can do so and management is ofcourse 1st preference.

my weight is on WIKI and Wordpress..

    what you say ?

    thanks in advance

WordPress is single user blogging. I don't think your users can sign up and submit content.
There is WordPress MU (multi-user) version, but people say it's with full of bugs.

    How about Moodle ?
Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.

Actually WordPresss CAN handle multiple authors. Search-This.com (which I happen to be an author at) is a wonderful example of WordPress handling multiple authors, each able to upload and publish thier own content.

You may use Joomla or Wordpress.
It is possible to have multiple authors on WordPress as well.

    Thanks for suggest.

i'm comfortable with wordpress, but it or themes dosen't give that site like looks, even themes are available but column etc is all common around the web.

I'm avoiding joomla although i'm comfortable with it as well but at later stages it will get confusing, other users won't understand it much.

Moodle - i've never used it. don't know what it does.

    ----

Actually what i'm planning is to put some content regularly, and also wanted students to post and shere their notes, research etc. etc.

plz guide me somewhere, m still confused with lot of cms around

    thanks

I havent use moodle yet, but the wirteup is excellent. I plan on trying it out though soon. Places like Bluehost have in their list of autoinstall scripts so it make things really easy depending on where you are hosted..

Ok, time for some hard questions now. Don't worry about picking a theme. You'll probably hate it anyway, and will want your own. (Fortunately that's not very hard.) What classes do you tend to teach, and what classes are your students in? That will determine the domain name you get, as well as how the Theme will look.

(And for the record, I have a WordPress Theme framework undergoing beta testing that's about to reach Release Candidate status which a Theme developer can integrate a design into - focus on the design once you've answered these questions I've asked and a few more follow-ups.)

    Interested in knowing how.
Does WordPress support it with default installation or does it require any modules to do that ?

    assign user editor role :)

    Hello Dan,
    i'm not teacher :) ---- surprised ??

I'll be providing genuine articles / sort of counselling on various topics and subject related stuff.. and will call some students to start off as sharing their notes, projects, research work etc etc...

for articles i'm trying to tie up with news paper editors/teachers and few i'll try to write by myself if i feel like :p (pretty hard job)

    hope you got my point..

Regarding the domains... i've registered already

    questmaster.in
    masterquest.in

now don't know which one out of them is good to host :)

    Actually, yes. I am.

    How would this work, exactly?

I think I do, and if you're doing what I think you're wanting to do, you might be better off with a message board as kodut suggested; however I don't think I quite yet understand what you're wanting to do. Do you have any example sites you can link to which demonstrate what you wish to accomplish?

    Thanks for nice feedback,

Actually I answered myself in post #14 above.. "assign user editor role"

and other limited role as well, and same time i found the theme suiting to it .... i've posted link above.

Now i'm pretty settled with using Wordpress here. if you like to have a look at it here the link

questmaster.in/index.php (@ Dan Schulz i guess you might have got some idea by now, what i'm trying to do)
    --
just pages needs to be created and content.

still i would like more suggestions in developing this site... and promoting it to get visitors, and turning visitors to rgisterations and regular visits by them.

    many thanks and regards
