my register just upgraded their platform, and i noticed their rates have increased....
just like the govt, add a new road, increase taxes, in this case, i do not have to pay
the increase, so i am looking for a cheap / reliable domain register....

    any ideas?

i was at their site earlier, and i was a bit confused about their language...
one part says total annual cost of $8.99/year, then top of page says its only for the first year...
i want the real annual cost, not the hype cost of the first year...

I think 1and1 is the best. You can get 1and1 discount code at 1and1discount.blogspot.com. Maybe, it will help you save money.
    Best,

Use GoDaddy and don't forget to use a discount coupon code. With a coupon GD is the cheapest registrar if I'm correct.

My recommendation is name.com. I have been using them for over three years and never had any problems. I have used nodaddy, namecheap and netfirms in the past and now have my 50+ domains at name.com
When I checked their .com: $8.25 for transfers --- $9.25 for new and renewals they have a free privacy if you use a coupon code. "PRIVACYPLEASE"
The only caveat there is that their support and billing people only work daytime Colorado MST 5 days, so if you are doing anything out of the ordinary or if you are new and paying with a credit card (especially if out of the USA/Canada) get things done Mon-Fri.
When you are buying anything there check at http://www.retailmenot.com/view/name.com for current discount codes. You cannot use 2 coupons in one transaction, so buy/renew a domain with a coupon and then go back and get the whois privacy.

Normal price would be around $8.99/year. I'd suggest you to look at domain offers section. Sometimes you can have coupon codes or even as low as $0.99/year domain registration.

Internet.bs and namesilo.com are both cheap options and they both have free whois privacy. NameSilo has a BUCKOFF coupon code, save $1 on a transfer or registration.

I'd recommend if you can find a domain name registration that cost less than USD5/year then grab it..

If you're looking for cheap domain name registrars, then go to this price comparison site domainwright.com and do a search against the domain name and extension of your choice. The results show up the best priced registrars for you to choose from.
With .coms from only $2.50 as of writing this, and prices compared from over 40 registrars against over 70 extensions, this website is a must when looking to buy domain names - both as a research tool and registration tool

I have used namecheap in the past and they are on my NO NEVER AGAIN list. They are not an ICANN accredited registrar. They are actually a reseller for eNom, so when you do a whois it shows it’s registered through eNom.

When you do anything there it has to get passed on to eNom and I experienced delays and failures their interface with eNom. When you think you have paid to register a domain an namecheap, if somebody registers it elsewhere before they successfully pass the information to eNom, you are out of luck on the domain name, but they do give you a prompt refund.
