Sudden traffic increase?! I told Google about it.

Something strange is happening with traffic to one of my sites today.

    Normally I'm getting 200-400 uniques a day.

Today I've already had over 2,000!

They all seem to be coming from Yahoo. Under the search engine part of my stats... the Yahoo number is increasing by the minute!

However, the search part of my stats only shows 20 searches.

The links part of my stats shows no links from internal Yahoo pages... would it?

Where would all those visitors be coming from?!

My site is in the directory... but I've never seen the traffic pour in like this. Do you think it's possibly they featured my site somehow, somewhere on Yahoo today?

I wrote to Google Adsense to let them know of the sudden traffic increase... which in turn is increasing my Adsense for the day. They'll be able to tell where the traffic is coming from... and that I'm not artificially causing it, right?

Has anyone seen something like this? Any ideas why the sudden major increase in visitors today from Yahoo?!

    Hopefully it's a good thing! :)

I received traffic increase from Y! and MSN two weeks ago. I didnt reported anything to Google but I hope they know from where traffic coming from.

There is nothing better than increase of traffic from major search engines and increase of everything else which traffic making. :)

Google's "software" can see how/when/where you got your increase, so don't worry about it.

Here are my search engine stats right now:

Links from an Internet Search Engine - Full list

    - Yahoo 4045 4297
    - Google 40 40
    - MSN 17 17
    - Alexa 2 2
    - Netscape 2 44
    - AltaVista 1 1

Isn't that crazy! Yahoo and Google were about the same yesterday.

I looked at most recent visitors... and see they are coming from my.yahoo.com - does this mean they may be featuring the site on one of their channels or something?

Your web hosting acccount should provide you with a web statistics or web logs which you can view to find that out. If you do not know where to find it, you can always ask your web host, they should be able to assist you.

Keep it up. 2000 uniques from a search engine is quite helpful.

I think you're starting to get fruit from your hardwork!

It's just strange... because my stats only show 20 visits from searches this month.

The Yahoo visitors seem to be coming directly from my.yahoo.com and not a search... was just trying to find out if my site is being featured on one of their channels or interest stories or something.

I also get increase in traffic from less than 100 unique a day to more than 1000 unique visitors a day. But the sad thing is that the clicks of adsense are not increase that much!

I use these two, but I find sitemeter.com and Google Analytics to be better in giving me real information I can use to optimise the site.

There is no need to report evertime you get a traffic spike.
