Sudden Surge in Members Registering`

    Hi,

I have a site which I don't update often. In fact, there are about 4 posts total on it! The last week or so, I've been getting a lot of messages that people were "registering". I finally logged in today to have a look, it says they are all "subscribers".

What's going on? I'm not complaining, but why would they be subscribing? What's the real thing they are doing?

They could just be trying to spam, or maybe they really saw something they liked. Who knows. Are they commenting or anything?

Hi, thanks for the replies. Nope, no comments. I don't normally set it to have to register to comment anyways (but I didn't check that). I did look for comments, though, and there aren't any. There have been 16 register within probably the past 3 or 4 days - from zero lol.

What readers are they using? It might give you a hint if they are legit or not.

What do you mean by members? They are subscribing to your RSS feed or as users of your blog?

Email them and ask why they've subscribed. If they don't respond, delete them.

I've had this happen too. Either spammers or bots that have found your registration page.

What I'm thinking is that they're registering for blogs in hopes that members get posting privileges, so they can spam that way. Or get a step closer to hacking into your admin panel.
