Can some one please please help. Here is the situation. 1) we were place # 1 for the keywords web design + graphic design and then suddenly over night we lost our ranking 2) for the keyword graphic design we are now on page 2 and for web design I dont see us in the first 25 pages. 3) we have held these previous high positions for well over 2 years 4) this is having a huge effet on our business and we now may have to look at letting staff go which is not what i want to do - this is having a REAL impact as Im sure you can imaging. 5) we did employ a previous SEO company that did buy links in directories and most of them have now been removed in the last 2 weeks as we did receive an email massage for Google ( not via webmaster tools ) which I did find a bit odd telling us that we did have a number of paid links which may be affecting our ranking 6) I did however get this message from webmaster tools: We received a request from a site owner to reconsider http://www.hoppingmad.com.au/ for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. We've reviewed your site and we believe that some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines. In order to preserve the quality of our search engine, pages from http://www.hoppingmad.com.au/ may not appear or may not rank as highly in Google's search results, or may otherwise be considered to be less trustworthy than sites which follow the quality guidelines. If you wish to be reconsidered again, please correct or remove all pages that are outside our quality guidelines. When such changes have been made, please visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration?hl=en and resubmit your site for reconsideration. 7) we are correcting this now and fixing up pages. 8) my main questions are: a) if we change the content to the site especially the home page as requested by google wont this affect our rankings even more - I mean google had indexed our current site and had loved our rankings and if we do change this home page content wont it affect us even more especially our page 2 ranking for graphic design. I have been told to DO NOTHING and lay low for the next 6 months but as a business owner I cannot afford to do this as google is really our lifeline and way of attracting new business. b) after the sudden drop I did contact the site reconsideration and have since been told that this is a HUGE mistake as it is alerting google to your site - similar to inviting them to audit your site thereby inflaming the situation c) so i am now confused - do i make the changes to the site and resubmit the site for reconsideration OR do I wait and see what happens as I have now be taken of 90% of the paid directories that I was place on. d) is this common - I mean how can we be on page 1 for so long and I mean for the keyword graphic design we were there for well over 6 years - our PR is 6 so I am really confused. thanks [h=3][/h]
I see what your problem is. Your linking a url using different anchor texts in the same page. For example: I see the following links logos corporate identity brochures flyers annual reports invitations magazines And all of them point to the same url : http://www.hoppingmad.com.au/services/graphic-design/ That is not natural as it is pretty obvious that you want to cheat the search engines in ranking the same page using different anchor texts. On the other hand you are deceiving your visitors because no matter what they click they will land on the same page. A good idea is putting all keyword together in an ordered fashio suchas "Logos, coorporate identity, brochures, flyers and magazines" in the same links. And even more spammy look this set of links: WEBSITE DESIGN website design website development flash animation e commerce content management system (cms) email marketing campaigns website architecture All pointing to the same page. This is why you are still penalized.
what about the content at the bottom of the site - does this seem too spammy - should I make on page changes - thats the real question.. many thx for the answers so far
Again, I am seeing all the content on bottom specially those menus are really spammy. As I wrote before, you have a column of links with different anchor texts but pointing to the same page. Just check this column on your site: WEBSITE DESIGN website design website development flash animation e commerce content management system (cms) email marketing campaigns website architecture All of them point to the same url which looks really spammy. It would be more natural every link pointing to a different page or subsection of the same page using # in the url. Or join all keyword together in a single link like this: Web design, development, flash animation, content management system dev, email marketing and more.
I have the same problem with the first site from my signature. I was on first page on google for a few combinations of keywords but now only one combination is on the first page and the rest are not in first 25 pages. Any help will be appreciated.

hi. Only keywords do not help in raising the ranking of your site. Good quality backlinks also plays very important role in ranking. Check your backlinks.
I'm also seen a downfall in rankings of one of my site and realized the reason later that the site was pointed from different anchor texts in article marketing campaign. This way one link was given with different keywords on the same page and seems another sign of link baiting and unethical. So we need to correct this by avoiding the same landing page with different keywords on same page and try to spread the as many as possible landing pages while adopting a link building technique.
You can really only be penalized for onpage stuff. You cannot get penalized for offpage stuff or everyone would be creating spammy links to their competitors sites and pretty soon there will be no sites in Google search results. Check your page for keyword stuffing or low-quality content, and continue building QUALITY links, not the low-grade forum link spam.
