Sudden infuse of traffic today morning

Did anybody else notice a sudden increase of traffic today morning? My Google analytics shows 85% of my traffic today is from Montara, Caifornia.

I had a good number of hits to a bunch of technical programming pages I added at explainstuff today morning. None of the visits from this location in California are not Organic.

So, I'm thinking it's some kind of bot. Excluding these 85% of visits to my site, my other visits have average time on site around 7 minutes. These 85% have average time on site about 3 seconds. That is another main reason I'm thinking this is a bot. Should I ban that IP, in order to not effect site time ratings? Or should I just do nothing.

    Any ideas?

if you have a web analytics installed, you can check if its actually coming from a SE or just a bot. Mind you there are lot of bots/RSS bots who literally eat up your bandwidth. Keep the bad boys out.

yeah sounds like a bot to me. Haven't heard of anyone else experiencing such a large volume of traffic today.

Why do they do this? I mean what do the bots/bot owners get by eating up our resources. All those requests were made from one city, to all the new pages (6 pages) I added today. It was around 30-40 hits on each page from the same city.
