Sudden increase of links

    Hello,

From August 2020, my website has a sudden increase in the number of targeted domains (was 300 domains and about 2,500 links). Now there are 5,400 domains and 38,000 links. What worries me the most is that these are links from Chinese sites. These are not comments, but links in the footers.

Is Google ignoring these links or should I disavow them?

Yeah, you should disavow any link you want google to ignore. This amount of links can not go undetected.
Also, check your website, maybe you have some plugin spammers are utilizing?

I have found that disavow does not work for me. Whenever there is an unintended spike, I just ignore it as this hardly ever has an effect on my ranking. When it does, it goes away pretty quick and my rank comes back up.

An increase is a good thing. So why worry? You’re popular in China lol.

Only if you assume the sites are real sites with real human traffic.

Experience tells us they're probably spammy link farms with legit links sprinkled in to look less problematic. You wouldn't want to be the legit link.

Visit them, but you should be able to tell from the domain names. Some names are obviously machine generated and not created by someone who is running a genuine website.
