Sudden Increase in CTR

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by aprilsagar, Apr 2, 2009.

Past few days, i am seeing sudden increase in my sites CTR, up from 1.75% to 5-6%. Consequently earnings rise manifold. Not that traffic has increased but at same traffic CTR has increased. Is this natural ? can this harm my account? is someone doing it knowingly (clicks)?. How can i find that out which location people clicked on my ads (is there any way for it). Pls guide.

Are you getting a shift of visitors from other sources? IE: A lot more search engine traffic, when you used to only get it from stumble & digg? Visitors from certain types of places like searching click the ads a lot more than others

CTR between 5 and 6% is not a source of worry and is still considered normal or at the most good. Did you change the ad position / blending the ads with contents etc. or find out a new targeted traffic source? There is absolutely no need to worry as long as you never clicked your ads or asked someone to click them. Be happy and enjoy the boost in the revenue :D

No, there isnt any shift in traffic sources and ad placements have been the same since i started the blog. Its just that CTR increased. Maybe luck.

If this happen on low traffic site, it consider as normal. If happen on high traffic site and continue for more than 4 days, you can actually report to adsense team, they will check for you

Most likely there is something interesting in your content, which is why people are clicking :) Anyway, I think a CTR below 30% is nothing to worry about.

My CTR also went up... it is usually int he 10 - 12& range and is now close to 20%. Traffic is not significantly higher but more and more of my visitors are coming via the search engines due to the SEO we have going on.

You just have to love targeted traffic!

If I take out some of my browsing into my site recently when I made some changes, my CTR did go up too. Its in the range of 5 to 10 percent and I don't think there is any worry as if it will continue to like that then I have to send or ask from Google where my traffic is coming so I can monitor.

    Thanks all,
    Juliev

I read replies here and few say that thair CTR is 10% or so and i suppose thats more than natural. Most dont have CTR more than max 4-5% on normal sites.10% to 20% is too good man.

I have never see ads on my blog so dont know if any sort of new ads coming that made this. Maybe its just natural.

If the clicks are valid then you do not have to worry about anything. Incase you think that there is something wrong going on, then you can always contact adsense support and tell them about this problem.

CTR = Click Through Rate. Formula is Clicks/Impressions
CPM = Cost per Thousand Impressions. Formula is Revenue/Impressions

I use an excel spread sheet to track all those numbers and formulas. It took a while to set up but it makes it easy to see what I am earning and where I need to make adjustments.

Check the log to see if there's any unnatural activity.
