you can reach the top rank easily. But stay in the same top rank is vary hard.. Because there are more new sites trying new seo techniques ...So daily you have to try something to stay there... There can be one or many reasons, compare your site with those sites .. you will find something new..
    That is the competition...

DO a submission in ezinearticles.com and use the keyword as a link back to your site. this will really help.

This just happened to me for one product line on my site for work. Every other keyword / product line is ranked highly, but that product line (with 50 pages) that used to be in the top 5 is now on 2,3,4 pages or isn't even listed.

I think many site also notice a big drop of rankings so just continue link building for your site again a relevance link is much better to gain quality links for your site good luck.

    Have you any SEO strategy?

If not then make it first.

If you are already working with a strategy then check this tool

    http://www.nichewatch.com

and analyze whether your competitors ranking above you have stronger points than you.

    You get the answer ;)

But if your competitors are weak and still ranking high then most likely its a temporary movement and you will gain your position back unless you have tricked Google using any Black Hat technique.

There are so many things that can cause a site to drop in rank it's almost impossible to tell you what's wrong without an indepth look at your site/code.

    Very important:
Are your titles and descriptions all unique to the pages they are on?

After many days of analysis I got the reason why our website was pushed down in SE results but now I've rectified that thing and our website is back to its position in SERP's. The only thing I can tell you is that don't make major changes in your website at a time.

Yep, I have done that one!

Did not work out too well, at all.

    Slow changes are probably best.

Glad to hear things are back to normal for you.
