Not necessarily true. Since Page Rank and the organic ranking algo measure many of the same metrics, there seems to be a weak correlation between rankings and PR, but as for PR being a ranking factor, I've yet to see any evidence that this is true.

I'd go back to work on your links. Try guest blogging on some related sites or write a whitepaper that could be distributed through other high-ranking websites targeting the same audience. You seem to have good content, but a weak backlink structure, and I'm sure that with even a few dozen decent links surrounded by original content (not the same press release) you'll see a return to the top of your SERPs.

I submitted my site to a ton of free directories. Could that be it?

Will it rectify itself after a while (maybe I went over the amount of backlinks I was allowed to gain in a month?)

Suddenly Page Rank dropped then it means that it's update of Google or you have less page rank back links.

    Hi,

There may be many reason behind the PR drop of your site. I will suggest you to check all of your back links, it may be possible that some of your good links have become no-follow. It is also possible that your site back links are not relevant to your business and Google has dropped the importance of those links.

So i will suggest you to create more quality back links from high PR relevant sites.
