Sudden drop in Google rankings - have you seen this before

One of our sites saw sudden drop in google .co.uk rankings. But the global (google .com) rankings were intact. Has anybody faced this before?

What do we do about it?

    Thanks in advance.

You didn't mention how old the site is. If you've had good ranking for months and get this sudden drop, wait a few days (up to 7) and see if it recovers. Data centers change all the time and sometimes your rank goes up or down for no apparent reason for a brief period.

I have read about something similar in the forum.

The site rank dropped down to 0, but the SERP is intouched.

I recommend you to wait and see for a week or two.

When Google are updating their servers, the page ranks exclusively, sometimes "mistakes" happen. I would not call it mistakes, I would call it - inconsistencies.

Be patient for some time, and if your rank does not show up (which most probably will), than go and complain about it.

P.S. If you did something spammy, do not complain too loud! :)

    regards

    Thanks guys, this is re-assuring.

The surprising part is that the rankings in google.co.uk suffered but google.com are intact. But its now around 2 weeks, so I am getting worried.

Some flakiness going on if you look around at some other posts. Maybe PR updates are getting ready to happen?

google is allways changing the serp.

if you want to avoid from serp drop, you must have all types of backlinks (article, directory, forum links etc)

    I agree.

staying on the same SERP is not possible. Your SERPs will vary depending on the competition.

This has happened to me before and I found out that some of it was my own fault even as it was unintentional.

Did you purchase an article publisher service? Check who is linking to you and if you have duplicate content. You don't want the wrong people linking to you either.

If it's only 48 hours or so, it should be no big deal, especially if the globals are still intact, if the globals fall, then do what I said above.

Welcome to the world of SEO. One day you are up and the next you are down.

Over the past ~month our back links we down big but they are now coming back up. I think it's just Google doing their thing again.

Start to worry in 2 weeks and then verify that you are not using some type of Link SPAM technique.

I believe the final answer to your question will be:

wait, hope and again wait for a reasonable amout of time if you haven't used spammy techniques.

if otherwise, try to find your way quietly! :)

well pr drops only if you don't have enough back links and if your site is not getting listed in the directories Google looks for a broader span of links back to your site.
if Google does not find them your domain will drop its pr"
know why worry about pr anyway if you check your back links and see that they are at a increasing # then trust that as a pr back up" that's the indicator"

pr will come eventually in any case keep working on your text links thats the norm broham"

I do agree with you Aaron111

do check your backlinks. Try to find referent points for your backlinks and if they have decreased or maybe you are not listed. If you are deleted from your backlinks, it may happened this to be done automatically and if you submitted to your backlinks in the same period, it means that in the same period you were off the road. Rethink of this issue.
