Successful website with no capital?

Do you believe it's possible to create a website and market it to success all by yourself, without paying a cent for advertising or forum posters or article writers or anything like that?

If you do the work yourself, can you make a website successful without paying anything? (buying advertising etc)

If you believe it's possible, what do you think is the best amount of time to spend managing and marketing the site per week? How many hours?

    Thanks.

If you know how to make a website, design it, do the programming, optimize it for search engines and promote heavily via different marketing techniques and of course you need to build backlinks if you ever want to experience some traffic from SE's. On top of that you would have to manage sales or everything else that you offer.

Yeah it's possible, not that it can be a huge success, but a decent business can be done by an individual, you just need to know lot's of things and have a business touch... Damn hard but possible.

Yes I certainly believe you can do it without spending a penny. You need to however know what you want to do and you need to know how to get there. There are ton of resources for you to read on taking advantage of free marketing. There are places where you can post your site for free.

Your site won't be successful if you don't have something unique or something creative... if you are just creating something that already exists in abundance then you are not going to succeed.

Do your home work; read a lot of blogs; and get started... don't spend money until you start making money... I have done that and I know it will work...

I don't know how anyone can be unique these days though. Especially without really good coding skills. I'm planning a forum, but a forum is still just a forum, there's thousands of them and no way to be unique.

I know the very basics of web creation; dofollow blog commenting, forum posting, email marketing, SEO basics etc. And I can design and do basic coding. So hopefully I'll be able to do something, even if it's minorly successful.

I have created a website and trying to market in lot of different methods. But the traffic is still very less.

I am trying too hard to make it up. I think it will take 6-12 months to make it a decent site in terms of traffic.

Building links is the most difficult part since no one really link to a newbie site.

    All the best.

Sure. You can be successful if you are committed to doing all the work in building and more importantly marketing your site through all available free services.

If the budget is limited, then you can do it on your own. Once you have the funds, you can start outsourcing it.

Building websites requires either time or money - if you don't want to spend a lot of money on it, you've got to be willing to put in the time. It's totally doable to do everything yourself without spending on things like content writers, posters, etc, but you are going to have a few expenses - domain names and hosting, for example. These are pretty cheap ($2 for a .info name and $5/month for cheap hosting), but you do need to invest in them. Free blogs aren't a safe place to build your business!

It is very possible to do this. You just need to be versed well in the delicate art of SEO. As far as how many hours, well it's about the quality not quantity really.

When you add value to the visitors, you are really building yourself wealth. I agree forum is a forum but what is that you are providing to your visitors? Tweak it or find a way to add a little more than other sites. People will recognize that.

If the website is going to be run as a business and if you have more time than money, then you have to take baby steps. Right knowleges and patience. You can get free hosting and load in some affiliate links or perhaps adsense around good content. Make a few bucks and reinvest. Rinse and repeat you way to bootstrap the business.

If you are looking to be an overnight success without an investment...forget about it. Ain't goona happen.

Yes, I do. There was once a website called sharkyextreme - it was one of the best hardware reviews site on the internet. The owner took 2 years, and worked on the site day and night. At the end of the 2 years, he had a site that was getting thousands of hits a day. But the owner got interested in something else and sold the site.

It would be nice to have some help, but yes, I think its very possible to build a site by yourself. You just have to be willing to up the time and effort into it.

Yes, it is possible if you are good enough. The time spend is depend on the skill too, some people able to do it by just spend 1~2hours per day and some people cant achieve the goal with 15 hours working per day, depend on the work quality, not quantity

Are we talking about mega project that definitely can pop up because it's a new before unknown idea?

Than I would say without advertisement it would be impossible in my opinion. Every new idea needs promotion, a big promotion to succeed.
