Hi, recently wrote an article based on an article i read in a magazine. It highlights the success stories of renown people in their industries and how they succeeded by taking the road less traveled. They are all highly successful and I believe we can all learn from their words of wisdom. To summarize 4 of them in my 1st part of the article: 1. If you give customers what they want - variety, price and fast delivery, you will get more sales. Advice from Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com. I think this is very relevant to directories as well as it is so easy to forget that while we are so busy maintaining our directories that we sometimes forget what customers actually want. 2. Reinvesting as much as you can back into the company - John Mackay of Whole Foods. Think many of the directory owners are already doing that. But still a valuable lesson to learn. 3. “It’s OK not to be no. 1. You can be the fourth-ranked search engine, like we are, and still be doing very, very well." - Jim Lanzone of Ask.com. This is definitely a principle that encourages me as I continue to slog and still seeing that I am some way off from the most successful directories around. Nevertheless, this is a journey and even though i'm not no. 1 (or not yet ), I can still be doing quite well. 4. You got to do what you are passionate about - Martha Stewart. Definitely true for directories. If you don't find joy in running this business, it is going to be so much more difficult to succeed and go further. For more details on their success stories and advice, you can go to my new blog, LifesPerspective.com to read about it. Wld really appreciate your comments and feedback on my blog. Do Digg it & Stumble it as well if you think it is worth the read. Tks.
Very interesting OP but not sure this is the category for it Can't seem to find the connection between the Thread and Directories imho
i know that it is more general business ideas, but like i said, i feel that these lessons are very relevant to our directory business as well. The various lessons can all be applied to us over here....
Really good success stories! I always like to know about such people and inspire myself to never give up.
All jokes aside, and not being narcissistic about it, I have all four of those qualities instilled in my everyday ventures. So I guess I have been ahead of the curve for quite some time now. I agree with every one of them and therre are several others as well, but I will keep that to myself Good post.
