I've got a directory on a search engine website. I've not promoted it too much - but I have done some promotion here and one or two other places that are very webmaster/SEO specific. Directory submissions have been quiet. Anyone able to suggest why this is? The main directory page is a pr6. All subpages are fully indexed by Google; nothing in the supplemental index. Backlinks to the site are chock full of .edu's and stuff. I've taken reasonable effort to assure that the directory is very SEO friendly - and it passes some traffic from the SE as well. I believe pricing is competitive with other directories of similiar nature. I've had someone suggest that because many of the areas were not populated that the directory looked a bit empty. So we've been working on filling those areas. Still rather quiet. Am I missing something? Or do I need to just do more promotion?
Promotion, promotion, promotion.. Have you done a press release at PRweb? Have you had promotional articles created and then submitted to the various (over 200+) article directories? And lastly, are you visible on the different webmaster forums with a link in your sign pointing back to your directory?
add to other directories, tell everyone on forums, and promote to everyone until you get bigger and it will grow itself from their.
Totally agree, if you're a good writer, you can also add a blog and write about stuff that webmasters are into.
