Can you please share some examples of ways you (or someone you know) have used Twitter to market your product(s) successfully?

Well I don't use Twitter to market "My" products, but mostly to market affiliate products or CPA offers.

But there are a few different ways to market your product using Twitter by using the search feature to find people talking about the niche your product might be in. If you can't find a buzz going on in the niche your product is in, or that your interested in, then the traffic might not be suited for Social Marketing.

Find a niche and update your twitter to that niche. Search for people interested in that niche and then try to catch them.

You can find top influencers for your niche on twazzup.com & connect with them. This takes more time but has worked for me (I gained several RTs and exposure to their followers).

The people I know of who use Twitter successfully are service providers who use it to connect with entrepreneurs or other professionals and build a relationship with them (nothing fancy, really. just talking to them basically), which leads to them offering their service.

If you have a website selling a product or service, it’s worth considering developing an accompanying blog and twitter community.

When I worked in bricks and mortar retail we used to say the longer people stayed in the shops the more they bought. Likewise the longer folks linger on or around your website the higher your sales are likely to be.
