So I submitted my site about 2 weeks ago and just found out today that they accepted it! I think it only took 24 hours for them to review it. The website that I submitted is in my siggy. It is the very third one. :D

I think it depends on what kind of site you have also. I submitted mine in the psychology section which there are not that many sites.

When you suggest a site, you will see a confirmation screen. That assures you that your suggestion has made it into the system.
Once a site has been successfully suggested, there is nothing more you need to do. A volunteer will very likely review your site in time, but there is no knowing when this might happen. DMOZ is not a listing service for webmasters, and there are many other ways that editors find sites to list, so looking at suggestions is not a high priority.
If your site is listed (whether as a result of your suggestion or because it was found somewhere else), you will be able to see it in the appropriate category. There is no need for an email to tell you that. ;)

Allow me to set your mind at rest. You have already done all you can by suggesting your site. There is nothing more you need to do, and nothing more you can do, so worrying is pointless. :)
At some stage it is likely that a volunteer will see your site and review it, but there is no knowing when that will be, because looking at site suggestions is not the main aim of being an editor.

I was so happy when my site, usgreenliving was listed and not so happy to this day when it was taken down for no given reason about 6 months later and without any response from the Category editors.

Repost my site and I'll be happy again. Is that asking so much?

I have been waiting for going on three years now.

I have watched my competitors bid for placement and pay for listings that they received.

I guess it all boils down to having to pay someone to get listed. Sucks because I thought that was against the rules for google :(

I think you might be confusing Google and the Open Directory Project. They are completely different organisations with different objectives, owners, purposes, and mechanisms.

There is never ever any charge to be listed in the ODP, and anyone offering a bribe to an editor is likely to have all their sites banned. Similarly, editors found to be accepting or asking for payment lose their editing accounts, so talking about money is not only futile but foolish. If you have proof of such transactions, please report them (with all the evidence) via the public abuse reporting form.
However, as the ODP is not a listing service for webmasters, you cannot draw any conclusion from the single fact of your site not being listed - it is far more likely that it has simply not yet been reviewed.

I have no solid proof. Just people that claim that they paid an editor to get listed. I suppose I could ask them for proof but why would they give it to me only to get banned and unlisted after paying an editor $500 for the listing.

I'm told this is a well known thing. I can point you to the many blogs I have found of people being offered bribes from editors to get listed though. Hopefully those people are no longer around.

It is a well known thing, makrhod is just pulling your leg, pretending that she doesn't know that listings are bought and sold.

Don't worry, those people are still around, you can find them in scriptlance and other sites but $500 is too much, DMOZ listings are sold for about $100 right now. ;)

For those who did actually read my post, what I said was that it does happen, but it is futile and foolish.

It's an imperfect world with many people willing to take a chance and break rules, so of course these things happen, but I have already explained the consequences, which are very unfortunate and completely unnecessary for both the webmaster and the corrupt editor.
