Apparently many thousands of directories have been created over the past few years. Can someone estimate roughly what percentage of the these directories are still actively maintained by their owners? I'm not planning to start a directory myself, but am just curious to know what people think about this. Thank you
I own just 01 directory. Majority of new directories just disappear after few months. Many people give up too early.
if you have anything unique in your directory and you do a lot pf prmotion success rate will be always high for you!
All web sites: Only ~4% make money! -Source = "Widely quoted stats" -Accuracy = ??? ~~~~~ Directories: IMO, Less than 1% make much money, but over 1% get re-sold for some profit to the original owner.
Difficult to pinpoint a fixed number, but expecting atleast 35% of the market entrants to survive, with roughly 10% being promoted No facts here, just gut feeling
Good point Rob. If you are after $$ --buy a PR5/6 expired -domain --install directory scrip--sell the directory--dupe fellow DPers --and get some profit--then succes rate is little bit high. Example -- http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=408093&highlight=PR6+Directory But if you want to be a serious directory owner --success rate should be around 1-2% in terms of profit.
this was in my mind for sometime,,nowadays directory type sites are just exploding.. i feel its already saturated..and only if you do a hell lot of time and effort into it will it become succesfull.. almost everyday i see a thread here at DP advertising to add to their Directory..although i do agree they bring in traffic..but when there is so much saturation..its hard to be succesful in it.
couldnt help noticing this...will try this.. normally if we start from scratch theres little chance...
Money talks. If one is planning to start one with an empty pocket, the will just land face down. If you have the bucks, its easy to break through the saturation level
You didn't get me. Or you are pretending to not getting me. What I meant was --if you do like that --there is NO-FUTURE. You get few quick blucks ( Quick Buck Crew ) --but thats all--you will never be able to enter the directory market again. Are you in so much need of some petty $$$
It's very hard to say, when we don't know what you mean by "these directories", in terms of the dates they were set up, and how long after that you want to check they are still running. One thing you might want to check is the Wayback machine for the various directory categories in Dmoz, Yahoo, and popular directory lists such as Directory Critic and info.vilesilencer. The directories you find from a couple of years back may still be listed as resources, but it doesn't follow that they are still actively being maintained.
