Hey has anyone ever been subpoenad for information related to one of their site users?

Did you have to actually go to a court date or did you just have to send over information?

A subpoena is "a command to appear at a certain time and place to give testimony upon a certain matter." - Black's Law Dictionary

If it's a subpoena, I'm pretty sure you have to go to court. The company I work for had to speak to the RCMP and Interpol because of a product our client was selling on their website (which we hosted) but we weren't actually sent a subpoena, just interviewed. They were mostly concerned whether we set up the paypal account he was using. so anyone reading this, don't ever set up paypal accounts for your clients.

Haha, I know this may sound dumb of naive, but I thought they subpoenad the information, not a person to physically bring the information to the court.

It seems really stupid to me. Especially when they know you don't live anywhere near their court! It just doesn't make sense.

Are you both in the same country? I "believe" if its a US subpoena, and you're not in the US, you wouldn't need to do anything. If you're in the US, and the court is as well, You even have to pay your ticket to the hearing.

If you decide not to co-operate make sure you contact a lawyer before making that decision as it can come back to bite ya in the behind.
