Submitting to search engines

Is there any benefit whatsoever of submitting to a search engine (ie google, yahoo, dogpile, etcetera) more than once?

Should it be done once a month? Once every two weeks? One a year?

Does it really matter once your indexed?

YOu generally need to submit only once to a search engine, per website, if you are not indexed within a reasonable time then you should submit again. Once you are indexed, then the spiders should be coming around automatically as you post new and updated content, so there is no need to submit to them again and again.

I would not really recommend submitting your site to search engines, all you need to do is build backlinks to your sites, submit your links to social media and social bookmarking sites and let the search bots find your site and index, its the best way to go about it. submitting to search engine is one of the useless methods and also highly not recommended from SEO point of view.

Search engine submission is dead :( you don't need to submit your site to different search engines, just wait for your site to get crawled naturally.

As others have said, search engine submission isn't really needed. Build a few backlinks (like forum sig files ect) and the search engines will find and index you. After that it's unlikely you'll be de-indexed. Even if you are de-indexed, just add some new content or build some more backlinks.

Submitting your site to SEs is not necessary. Don't waste you time. Search engines crawl live sites automatically.

Maybe if you're looking for a few hits here and there on some of the lesser known search engines but if the search engine is worth it's listing it likely will find your site no problems if you apply a bit of basic SEO.

If you have used your keywords appropriately and if you work on getting quality back links to your website, I understand it is not necessary to submit to the search engines. They should and will find you by themselves.

Submission to search engines- only for our sites to be indexed. But now social networking sites like digg, twitter makes it much simpler. So submission to search engine is not necessary now.

Well, from my experience, I never submit my links to search engines, What I do is, I get more backlinks to my site, automatically search engines used to visit my site and index it. :) So, keep on getting backlinks frequently.

I never submitted my sites to search engines...they got crawled in matter of days :) Thereforei dont really see any "particular benefit" in submitting to SEs except for G sitemap.

Multiple submission does not work as since if you does not appear in the search results in a particular time then its better to resubmit it again. :)
