Does submitting my blog to sites like Blogcatalog and MyBlogLog help build up more traffic through backlinks, etc? Or is it just a waste of time?
I just don't find any use of such directories...although I use MBL daily to check my stats..but that is only what I use MBL for... blogging directories were helpful till Google used to count those links. Now as it will penalize for such links (I hope I am not wrong) so I think it is always suggested to stay away from these links..
I am receiving a fair amount of traffic from both. I have also used FuelMyBlog... but it didn't work quite as well as the MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog. Jens
I am satisfied with both MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog as I am getting both targeted traffic and new contacts every single day. I am not sure about Google, but it works for me. Jens
Google doesn't penalize for this, only for "link farms", i.e. people/websites who don't care for quality control and just want money.
If you want traffic, I would skip submitting to those sites (yes, I think it's a waste of time, or at least for my projects) and stick to wordpress where posts are automatically pinged (for traffic, even though it is very little).
