I am a little confused and could use some advice. If you could help, it would be much appreciated. I have submitted sitemaps before to Google and Yahoo in the past for other sites of mine. But, I have a site with a vBulletin forum and I am wondering how I should go about creating & submitting a sitemap for this site. I have built a sitemap for the site excluding the forum directory. But, I haven't submitted anything for the site yet as I think I would want my forum submitted as well. How do I go about submitting my sitemap and getting my forum included? I have the VBSEO add-on installed in my vbulletin forum which created a (text version) forum archive of my vBulletin forums and pages. Is this archive an acceptable sitemap for my forums to submit to Google? If yes, how do I go about submitting it. Google says that the sitemaps have to be in the sites lowest root directory or something like that but my archive index is in the "/forums/archive/" directory. How do go about submitting and creating a sitemap with my forums pages included? If this archive isn't the acceptable sitemap for my forum, what should I do to create a sitemap including my vBulletin forums? Help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I think I figured out what I am supposed to do. I downloaded and installed the VBSEO Sitemap tool and created a sitemap for my forums. I created a separate sitemap for my website and excluded my forums directory. When I went to submit these maps to Google it wouldn't accept my forums sitemap because it wasn't in my website's root directory. The VBSEO script created the sitemap in the "/forums" directory So, I registered my forums as a separate site URL with Google and then submitted the forums sitemap and main site's sitemap separately under separate URLs. Did I do this right?
