one of my site got listed in google in less than 1 hour, one in less than 12 and another one before 24 hour. You really dont have to wait for a week to get it listen in google! check this out:

I guess it can't really hurt but it is really unnecessary, make sure to never pay for search engine submissions because those are just scams.

Funny, I just saw an SEO site that offers different packages and one of them includes search engine submissions and resubmissions on a monthly basis!!! Now that might just get you banned!

I cannot see why it's bad SEO unless you ONLY submit your site and don't create backlinks - I know of sites where the owners submitted them to Google, didn't get indexed for months and then created a few backlinks and were indexed pretty quickly.
I have found, thoug, that Bing doesn't always pick up on backlinks and so I do submit to Bing and Yahoo.

It is not bad, it is just mostly redundant.

    Many still do it however.

    Eh...this article was written 2006 webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/search-engine-optimisation/submit-search-engines.shtml

If you have been around the Internet for any length of time and have studied search engine optimization, you have probably been warned against submitting your sites directly to the search engines. According to the “experts,” direct search engine submission will somehow seriously injure your web promotion, search engine optimization efforts. This simply is not true and is akin to the now raging debate on the validity of the duplicate content penalty theory. Direct search engine submission will not hurt your business. In fact, it can provide your search engine optimization plans with a big boost. Let me give you three reasons why.

    1. The Search Engines Can Become Your Best Friend. You Need to Show Them Where to Find You: You've built a great website. You've optimized it. Now it's time to alert the search engines. Your goal is to get great rankings. You can't do that if you don't “exist” to the search engines. Show them exactly where to find you. Google encourages this. They even direct webmasters to submit their sitemaps directly to them. This helps ensure that all the pages from your sites are spiders and indexed. Monthly web submission can really catapult your efforts.

    2. Search Engine Submission Doesn't Exclude Other SEO Efforts: Just because you've submitted your site to the engines, doesn't exclude you from putting into practice other critical and recommended SEO tactics. Submissions to directories and blogs are other options that can also help you get indexed quickly. If the search engine picks up your site this way first, then fine. Direct search engine submission won't effect you negatively. You should do both for maximum results.

    3. Search Engine & Directory Submission Will Help You Obtain Links and Traffic: Submitting your website to the search engines and directories with high pr scores can help your search engine optimization efforts a great deal. However, doing this by hand can prove cumbersome. But there are excellent search engine submission, directory submission, and web promotion packages on the web that you can purchase to automate these tasks..

Search engine submission has gotten a bad rap in its' relationship to web promotion. However, submitting your site to the search engines can prove to be a very powerful search engine optimization tool that should be utilized by every web master. Proper search engine optimization will definitely give your web promotion and search engine rankings a big boost.

"We add and update new sites to our index each time we crawl the web, and google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl"we invite you to submit your URL here We do not add all submitted URLs to our index, and we cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if they will appear." / Add your URL to Google

See if we add our site to Google or any search Engine, it should be " Bad SEO " , because we should not submit our Main URL to Google Search Engine this is old Concept, and Now in SEO we have to create SEO Friendly site and write own Fresh Content................thats all its automatically google will crawl with in a Days. you dont want to submit at all.......????

Three years in the Internet world is like 30 regular years...this is outdate...but you can still find lots of companies recommending it (and selling it) these days. Not sure why you used them as a source.

But I should point out that even Google recommends you submit your new site to their search engine.

The truth is that any company that charges you for search engine submission or search engine inclusion is trying to fleece you, because with one or two decent backlink you will get picked up quick, usually within 24 hours.

Just to repeat what most have alrady said, it is not bad SEO, it's a just a waste of time. Spend your time and effort on more productive things like building good content.
