Will submitting my link to directorys get a decent amout of traffic to my site by visitors clicking on my link in the directory or is it just a way to create back links to increase my page rank. which i know if my page rank goes up that will send traffic to my site as well. any thoughs would be appreciated.

You add your links to a sea of existing links = expect no traffic worth mentioning.

    TOPS30 is correct. :)

Directory links are mainly good for the SE's.

Yeah, they are ust there to increase your backlinks and page ranks, you maybe getting perhaps 1 visitor per month from there, but you cannot rely on Direcoties to do your work.

Thanks for the replies that is what i thought i am listed in a few and have not seen much traffic increase. but what about paid links where they will put your link on the home page in the partners section. In the link/sell section in here there are a lot of people selling links in the partner or featured link section of their directory sites

Link directory has completely nothing to do incoming traffic. It is but one way to promote your site to search engine (READ not to human), to tell SE how popular your site is, by way of link popularity.

By the way, if you serious about link building, you have to do massive sumission to as many directories as you can for the effort to make sense.

Hotscripts.com isn't really a link directory, though - it's a software download/directory site. Software sites are good for traffic and links. :)

As someone already said, directories don't bring significant traffic, but some do a lot more than others.

As for the 'others', those are good for PR mostly, less for rankings as they are rarely themed and backlinks are rarely relevant, which is the secret to high search engine rankings. What you can do here is to submit to niche directories relevant to your site.

Higher PR directories help getting spidered more effectively and important ones are usually a good sign of quality, or they won't accept you in.

I can't think of much else right now, so...

    ...bottom line:

directory submission in general is good mostly for PR (but that doesn't help getting traffic!)

And please note that to get some benefits you should do directory submission
manually and regularly, spreading submissioons over long periods of time (ie: better 3 a day for 30 days than 30 a day for 3 days!).

Directory itself will not bring too much traffic to your website. The function of directory is the data source for major search engines. For exampel, almost all the major search engines use the data of open directory. So submitting to open directory, 1 or 2 month later, you site will be found in google, msn, altavista, etc searching.

Well like said before, because you are submitting to a directory, your link will become lost in a sea of other links, causing visitors to maybe "stumble" on your link ,maybe once or twice a week,so not alot of traffic there. But submitting to niche directories, relevant to your site is better,as google rank sites higher with backlinks to your site, that are relevant.
