I wouldn't redirect straight to an affiliate link. You've gotten a click-through and you're just going to send them away forever?

    Me?

I have my resource box which leads to my site. But at the bottom of the article(just before the resource box) I leave the "affiliate link" to the site I was just writing the article about.

So to answer your question..Yes I'm sending them away..straight to the site so they can sign up and I get paid for the lead/sale.

They probably don't want too much self promotion.
I think I had the same problem with ezinearticles.com, they didn't want so many links. Maybe put your links in your author bio only.

Why wouldn't you first try to get them on your list or have them bookmark your website? In my experience, people who are sent to an affiliate site without getting them as YOUR OWN lead first will, for the most part, NEVER come back to you again.

I would try to get their info so I could sell to them over and over again.

    JMO, of course.

When people come to my article, they come there to read it because they want to know some info on the site/product first. Can you ever remember doing that? The typical person doesn't want to opt into some mailing list on the article writers own site. Heck, they don't know what a mailing list is. They're just interested in that other thing. But I guess it all depends on the niche.

sending the visitor to the affiliate link as well as gaining backlinks from the resource box is what I'm wanting out of this as well as sending them to my site. They have 3 options - click the affiliate link, click my website link, or close the page.

With most of the article submissions i've done, most sites won't allow a link in the body of the article (or at the end), so you have to list the link to your website in the author bio section.

I would recommend 2 links: one to your website, and one to a squeeze page where you can collect email addys (be sure to give something away for free - pm me for more details if you want) - get as much link love as you can without getting banned!

Not necessarily. Why not create an opt in page on your website specifically for the affiliate product that you're promoting. Once the visitor has joined you can direct them to a product page which doesn't require an opt in.

Talk to the product owner --- they might even set you up with more tips on promotion, autoresponder series and provide you with a link that bypasses the opt-in page just for your visitors.

I once emailed a product owner and they set me with my own page on their website with my website name and a special, lower priced promotion specifically for my list.

Yes but it all depends on what your trying to do. With ezine articles I might include both website and url. With a mass submission site I mite include squeeze page.
